Shaggy Scooby Doo Costume

The Shaggy Scooby Doo costume really reflects the era in which Scooby Doo was created.  The 1960’s was an age of hippies, beatniks, peace and flower power and Shaggy really is an embodiment of this time.  With his lanky, and shaggy brown hair, goatee, green-t-shirt and brown bell bottoms, Shaggy was more interested in eating than solving mysteries.

So if you want to be part of the gang of Mystery Inc alongside Fred, Daphne, Velma and Scooby Doo, then Shaggy is a great costume to wear for Halloween or any fancy dress event.

Shaggy’s real name was Norville Rogers but was nicknamed Shaggy.  This could either be to do with his hair style or as implied in one of the television episodes, as an abbreviation of “Shaggleford”, the last name of his rich uncle.

Shaggy is such a great character.  He is the owner and best friend of Scooby Doo and they were always paired together to go off in search of the monsters.  However, it always ended up with Scooby and Shaggy trying to find food to eat or being bribed with Scooby snacks.

You could always trust Shaggy to come out with something funny during an episode such as:

”Let’s do what we do best Scoob, eat”

“Scooby-Doo, where are you?”

“Like there’s times I’ll do anything for a Scooby Snack”

“This place makes me so nervous, all I can think of is food!”

”Zoinks!”

In the Scooby-Doo Movies Shaggy was played by Matthew Lillard who did a great job of portraying Shaggy. He really managed to portray Shaggy as a lanky and gangly beatnik that he was meant to be.  I also liked his relationship with Scooby-Doo which must have been difficult as Scooby was computer generated.

So get yourself a Shaggy Scooby Doo costume and get yourself a large Scooby Snack!
